Peter Dixie
Peter Dixie is a photographer based in Portsmouth, working primarily with landscape and architecture. His particular interest lies in the remnants and traces of history and trauma, accident and process, and in how these shape the places we inhabit.
From 2011 until 2023 he photographed as Lotan Architectural Photography in Shanghai, specialising in contemporary architecture, urban design and the built environment.
His current project, Solent Subtopia, explores the landscapes of South Hampshire through walking, photography and research. It examines how planning, infrastructure, development and everyday occupation have shaped the region, attending to the familiar and overlooked places where these processes become visible.
Alongside his own photographic practice, he co-organises and hosts The SCUL Sessions with Tom Westbury: a series of public talks in Southampton featuring photographers exploring landscape and land use across the UK. With an emphasis on ongoing or unpublished projects, the sessions offer a space to discuss work as it develops, including the questions, decisions and uncertainties that guide it.
Through @PDsPHotoPHoughts, he writes about photographic history, theory, practice and criticism, bringing philosophical questions into conversation with the everyday experience of making and looking at photographs.
